After lunch, we move to Uffizi, the most visited museum in Italy. It was originally built to house the uffizi, or offices, of Florence magistrates and later became a place where marvels gathered — the art treasures collected by wealthy Medici come to reside here. The gallery is as visually stunning as the many works that adorn its walls since it overlooks the Arno River. You will learn about its very stormy history — a mafia car bomb and devastating floods, all of which at one time or another threatened the artworks. Much modernization has taken place at Uffizi up to the early 21st century as it has become an internationally renowned museum. More than 100 rooms display the best masterpieces of Italian art whose names are synonymous with great Renaissance and Baroque artists such as Titian and Caravaggio. Meet Raphael, who painted “Self Portrait.” Other stars of the show include Botticelli, whose “Primavera” is nearly as famous as it is iconic, and one of his works “The Birth of Venus” continues to be a referent in popular culture long after its creation. This tour will make sure that your stay in Florence ends with something that can be called the very best it has to offer.
