Overview

Your adventure starts at the Accademia Gallery, which houses Michelangelo's famous statue of David.

You will then have the chance to visit many other famous masterpieces, such as Raphael's Madonna of the Pinks or The Virgin and Child between St.

John the Baptist and Saint Joseph, and much more, at the Accademia Gallery as well! From here, you will want to walk around the many historic buildings and monuments found throughout the area known as the "Duomo Complex," which are beautiful examples of Renaissance architecture.

As you do this, you will be able to see the many types of structures that belong to the church; specifically, the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore (Brunelleschi's Dome), the Baptistery (one of the oldest buildings in Florence), and the bell tower of Giotto (Giotto's Bell Tower).

You should also take time to view the beautiful Gothic architecture of the Church of Orsanmichele as well as see the stunning Orcagna Tabernacle inside the Church of Orsanmichele.

Next, you can continue your exploration at the bustling market known as the Mercato della Paglia, wherein you will find the "Porcellino," or pig statue, which will bring you good luck if you touch it! Your next destination will be Piazza della Signoria; which contains one of the world's most beautiful collections of sculptural works located in the Loggia dei Lanzi and the magnificent Palazzo Vecchio.

Visiting these places will allow you to gain an understanding of the history of Florence and how that history shaped the present-day city! The Uffizi Gallery is among the top-rated art museums in the world and houses priceless masterpieces of great artists like Botticelli (including the Birth of Venus), Michelangelo and Da Vinci.

Visiting the Uffizi Gallery makes for a nice conclusion to your visit to Florence; however, it is possible that there is an alternative itinerary for you.
