How to get to the Uffizi Gallery

The Uffizi Gallery is located in the heart of the historic center of Florence, at Piazzale degli Uffizi 6, a stone's throw from Piazza della Signoria and the Ponte Vecchio. Below is all the information you need to reach it conveniently, depending on the means of transportation you choose:

By train

If you are arriving by train, the reference station is Florence Santa Maria Novella (SMN), the city's main station and well connected with major Italian cities (Rome, Milan, Bologna, Venice).
From SMN station:

  • On foot: about a 15-20 minute walk through the historic center (follow Via Panzani, Via de' Cerretani, Piazza del Duomo and Via dei Calzaiuoli).
  • By bus: take ATAF lines 23, C1 or C3 to Piazza della Signoria or Lungarno Diaz.
  • By cab: the ride takes about 10 minutes, with an average fare of €10-15.

By car

The historic center of Florence is an active limited traffic zone (ZTL) for much of the day. Entry by private car is not recommended.
If you arrive by car:

Park outside the ZTL, such as in the parking lots:

  • Santa Maria Novella parking lot (Station Square);
  • Porta al Prato parking lot.
  • Parking Parterre (with the T1 tramway to the center);

From there, you can continue on foot or by cab, streetcar or bus to the Galleria.

Please note: If you are staying in a hotel in the center, check if they can register your license plate to allow you temporary entry into the ZTL.

By plane

The nearest airport is Florence Peretola “Amerigo Vespucci” (FLR), located about 8 km from the city center.
To reach the Galleria:

  • By tramway: the T2 line connects the airport directly with Santa Maria Novella station (travel time: 20 minutes).
  • By cab: the ride takes about 20 minutes, the fare is fixed and around €22 (+ surcharges for luggage or holidays).

  • Pisa Airport (PSA): connected to Florence by direct train or shuttle bus (about 1 hour travel time).
  • Bologna Airport (BLQ): connected by high-speed trains (about 1 hour).

The main companies (FlixBus, Marino, Itabus, Autolinee Toscane) stop at the Bus Terminal in Piazzale Montelungo, adjacent to Santa Maria Novella station.
From there, you can walk to the center or Piazza della Signoria in 20 minutes, or opt for a bus or cab.

Walking

The Uffizi Gallery is located in the pedestrian-friendly historic center, and many visitors prefer to reach it on foot, enjoying a stroll through the historic streets of Florence.
Below are some general directions:

  • From Piazza del Duomo: walk down Via dei Calzaiuoli and then turn left onto Via della Ninna.
  • From Ponte Vecchio: the Galleria is right at the end of the bridge, on the opposite side of the river from Palazzo Pitti.
  • Follow the signs to Piazza della Signoria: it is only 50 meters from there.
